Thai Lanna Cuisine About Us

Supatra Wechasarn opened family-owned Thai restaurant Thai Lanna Cuisine with her two younger sisters in 2004, after coming to Canada in 2002. She was born in Udon Thani, a city in the northeast of Thailand, but lived in a few different regions of Thailand before immigrating. Her older sister joined the business in 2011.

Once in Canada, Supatra was a waitress at a Thai restaurant. It was 2003 that she began the process of opening her own.

With Thai Lanna Cuisine, Supatra strives to provide customers with a true Thai experience. The delicious food is authentic and made with fresh ingredients and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The staff respects each and every customer for supporting the restaurant and hopes to make them feel like they're having a cozy conversation with friends.

The name is a significant part of the restaurant's character. "Lanna" in Thai means "million rice fields," but with a slightly different accent ("Lan Na"), it's the name of an ancient region in what is now the north of Thailand. It's an easy-to-pronounce Thai word that represents the agricultural nature of Thailand, with its many green rice fields.

Community is another important aspect of Thai Lanna Cuisine. From hiring students to having participated with Ottawa Mission to feeding an elderly woman in need, Thai Lanna Cuisine aims to help and foster the community around it.

So please, come on in and taste the warmth of Thailand at Thai Lanna Cuisine!
